Description from the seller
Antoine Stevens (1987)
Untitled
2025
Unique original work created with acrylic and spray paint on canvas.
Born in 1987 in the north of France, Antoine Stevens discovered graffiti as a teenager before developing a studio painting practice from 2005. His artistic universe sits at the crossroads of street art and contemporary figurative portraiture. Through gestural painting, plays of transparency, drips, and a subtle handling of material, he composes portraits where emotion and abstraction mingle with great intensity. His work is today shown in several galleries in France and internationally.
In this Untitled work, Antoine Stevens delivers a particularly immersive composition dominated by a palette of deep blues, turquoises and purples. The female face gradually emerges through multiple layers of paint, colored veils and drips that create a sense of depth and movement. The graphic elements inspired by graffiti dialog with a delicately rendered portrait, giving rise to a work that is both powerful and contemplative.
The gaze, turned toward the horizon, seems to emerge from an almost aquatic universe where light and matter blend. This enveloping atmosphere, reinforced by transparency effects and the superposition of colors, perfectly illustrates the artist’s plastic research around memory, emotion, and the spontaneity of gesture.
This canvas is a perfect synthesis of Antoine Stevens’s universe, where mastery of realistic portrait meets the energy of contemporary urban art.
