Two handmade wooden dog bookends from Spain, dated to the mid‑20th century (1960–1970) in Art Déco style, with visible wood grain, red collars, and rectangular bases, in good used condition with signs of age and minor imperfections.
Description from the seller
They are two handmade carved dog bookends in wood, typical of the second half of the 20th century, and as soon as you look at them you notice that warm charm of domestic pieces crafted with care, unhurried and with a clearly decorative intention. Each dog is modeled with friendly, almost playful geometry: compact bodies, angular heads, front legs raised in a begging pose, as if asking for attention or awaiting a reward. That expressive stance makes each figure a small character.
The wood, with its visible grain and natural wear, speaks of time and use. It is not an industrial piece: you can tell the artisan’s hand in the planes, in the softened edges, in the small irregularities that give life to the surface. The medium tone of the material adds warmth, and the red collars introduce a touch of color that breaks the monotony and adds a playful, almost narrative wink.
The rectangular bases, solid and well-proportioned, perform their function discreetly: supporting the books without taking away the spotlight from the figures. The ensemble conveys that very characteristic blend of 20th-century popular design: simple functionality, approachable aesthetics, and a hint of humor that turns a everyday object into something endearing.
Overall, they are bookends that combine craftsmanship, figurative character, and vintage spirit, perfect for adding personality to a bookshelf.
Shipped with tracking and careful packaging.
