Sonia Abeloos (1876–1969) – Boat in the harbor channel
Atmospheric maritime painting by the Belgian artist Sonia Abeloos (1876–1969), depicting a boat in a harbor channel. The work is executed in oil on panel and signed “S. Abeloos”.
Sonia Abeloos was a Belgian artist, known for her landscapes, coastal and harbor scenes, seascapes, interiors and portraits. Her maritime works align with her interest in the Belgian coast, ports and life on the water.
Sonia Abeloos (Brussels, 1876–1969) was a Belgian artist, trained at the Académie of Brussels, where she studied among others with Isidore Verheyden and Guillaume Van Strydonck. She painted landscapes, seascapes, harbor- and beach scenes, interiors, portraits and still lifes. Abeloos exhibited in Belgium and internationally and was a member of the Brussels Cercle Artistique et Littéraire. Her atmospheric coastal and harbor scenes form a recognizable part of her oeuvre. Works by her are included in the collection of the Museum of Ixelles.
