Ercole Farnese – Bust in plaster from a historic mold of an Italian foundry – Italy, 20th century

Plaster bust of Hercules Farnese, made from an antique mold belonging to the tradition of historic Italian artistic foundries. The model reproduces the famous masterpiece of classical sculpture, highlighting the richness of the modeling, the curly hair, the beard and the expressive intensity of the face.

The work derives from a historical matrix used to create molds destined for academies, ateliers and sculpture studios. The quality of the reproduction accurately renders the details of the original, making it an interesting collectible and decorative object.

The Farnese Hercules is a Roman marble copy of a Greek original attributed to Lysippos (4th century B.C.) and is kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. It is one of the most representative works of classical sculpture and one of the models most studied in the academic training of artists.
