This is a finely crafted Japanese matcha tea bowl (chawan) created by Masaki Kawai (川合正樹), an acclaimed Mino ware pottery master and founder of the Tatsuki-gama (樹窯) kiln in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture.

Masaki Kawai (b. 1949) is one of the distinguished figures in contemporary Mino ceramics. Having exhibited in prestigious national art competitions including Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) over 30 times, as well as the Japan New Craft Exhibition, his works are celebrated for seamlessly blending traditional Mino ceramic techniques with modern aesthetic sensibilities.

Born in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture (1949).
Established Tatsuki-gama Kiln in 1975.
Selected for the prestigious Nitten exhibition over 30 times.
Winner of numerous awards including the Mino Ceramic Art Award, Kobei Award, and Gold Prize at the Mino Ceramic Tea Bowl Exhibition.
Served as a judge and councillor for the Japan New Crafts Federation.
