Original Barong teakwood statue from Indonesia, coming with a stand, 68 cm high (including stand), 17 cm wide, 14 cm deep, weighing approximately 1.145 kg, in good condition.
Description from the seller
The Barong is a mythical protector of Bali, symbolizing the triumph of Dharma (Goodness) over Adharma (Evil). As a guardian figure, he stands for protection and balance, making him a valuable addition to your interior, both at home and in your business. This handmade piece, crafted by skilled Balinese artisans, combines intricate wood carving with decorative artistry and reflects the essence of traditional Balinese culture, mirroring the authenticity and grandeur of the Balinese Barong.
A few scratches and signs of wear and a fantastic patina from lived-in years, small nicks here and there that are normal for the age and contribute to the authenticity of the item. It is a handmade "God Barong" mask for decoration, carved in teak wood by artisans from the island of Bali, Indonesia. Barong is a mythical figure on the island of Bali... He was a demon who turned to the good and became the leader of the forces of good, king of the spirits and protector of the island of Bali. Balinese culture is closely linked to Barong; several typical dances in the region are for the God Barong.
It is placed on a custom-made stand (height on stand 68 cm) and the dimensions of the mask itself are approximately 45x17x14 cm. Personally, I find the expression of the figure very beautiful; it seems that the expression changes with a different angle—pure craftsmanship. This is NOT a tourist statue, but a genuine original piece found in Gianyar / Bali. The statue is made from real teak wood and weighs just over 1.2 kilograms including the stand.
In some places the paint has worn nicely and it is a little dusty, because I did not want to clean it to preserve the authenticity and originality. Overall it is in good condition with a beautiful patina. See the last photo of the back to judge the age of this item for yourself.
Although this statue shows light signs of use, it has a wonderfully rich decorative appeal. The wood patina, indicating considerable age, in combination with the elegant design, makes it a beautiful object and collectible!
