Wiskemann - Liquor set (2) - Crystal

Elegant cocktail shaker and ice tongs with a "cut-to-clear" treatment (highly sought after, especially in emerald green).

The design is a Bohemian classic (Val St. Lambert or Nachtmann style). The combination of emerald green with the long, tapered cuts (called "lance cuts") suggests a production of the highest level, probably dating from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Glass Technique: This is cased and engraved glass. In practice, the container is created with a layer of emerald-green glass over a transparent layer. The craftsman then cut the motifs as "nailhead" (the upper ovals) and as "diamond" (the lower grid) to bring out the underlying transparency.

• Style and Origin: This kind of piece was typical of Bohemian production (now the Czech Republic) or of the major English crystal houses (such as Webb or Richardson) that supplied the upper-middle-class European tables.

The WA mark confirms that the objects were produced by Wiskemann, one of the most prestigious names in Belgian silverware.
