# About Karl Lagasse
Karl Lagasse is a French contemporary artist renowned on the international scene for his sculptures, paintings, and creations mixing multiple artistic techniques.
His prominence emerged in **2009** with his famous series **One Dollar**, which earned him a place by **Artprice** among the ten best sculptors under thirty.
In **2012**, the New York publisher **Farameh** selected him among fifty contemporary artists featured in the book *FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art*, dedicated to creators inspired by the emblematic symbols of the United States.
During **Art Paris Art Fair 2016**, his imposing bronze sculpture **One Dollar**, two meters high and exhibited at the Grand Palais, received congratulations from the President of the French Republic.

## Artistic journey
Karl Lagasse developed an early interest in art. At seven years old, he created his first collages after a decisive encounter with sculptor **César Baldaccini**.
He later turned to graffiti and tagging in the Paris metro while continuing his collage work. **Yvaral Vasarely** encouraged him to combine these two forms of expression, a path that would become one of the signatures of his artistic universe.
In **2003**, he prepared his first exhibition in Paris before presenting his first solo show in **2006** at **Galerie Isy Brachot** in Brussels.

Inspired by his work **Cryptogram One**, these trophies made of aluminum alloy with a mirror finish bear inscriptions **“Hope”**, **“7e Art”**, and **“Deauville”** on their four faces.
For the **46th edition of the festival in 2020**, a new commission was entrusted to him to create a trophy inspired by the characteristic drawing of the Deauville Boardwalk barriers.

In **2016**, France Culture highlighted his monumental installation **A Piece of Heaven on Earth**, presented at the **Art Paris Art Fair 2015** in partnership with **Maserati**.
This work brings together a Maserati covered with a white veil, a statue of Jesus, and several dollar-shaped sculptures to evoke the notion of human debt.
