# About Karl Lagasse

Karl Lagasse is a French contemporary artist whose works, blending painting and sculpture, are recognized on the international art scene.

His career took a major turn in **2009** with the creation of his famous **One Dollar** series, earning him a place by **Artprice** among the ten best sculptors under thirty.

In **2012**, the New York publishing house **Farameh** selected him among fifty contemporary artists featured in the book *FOR WHICH IT STANDS: Americana in Contemporary Art*, devoted to creators inspired by traditional American symbols.

At the **Art Paris Art Fair 2016**, his monumental bronze sculpture **One Dollar**, two meters tall and exhibited at the Grand Palais, received congratulations from the President of the French Republic.

## Artistic journey

Karl Lagasse discovers his passion for creation at a very young age. At seven, he makes his first collages after a defining encounter with sculptor **César Baldaccini**.

He then develops an interest in graffiti and tagging in the Paris metro while continuing his collage work. Encouraged by **Yvaral Vasarely**, he gradually unites these two forms of expression, which become a hallmark of his artistic universe.

In **2003**, he prepares his first exhibition in Paris before organizing his first solo show in **2006** at the **Galerie Isy Brachot** in Brussels.

In **2008**, he presents at the **Espace Pierre Cardin** an exhibition bringing together paintings, sculptures, and video installations.

In **2011**, he was represented by **Bel Air Fine Art** at the **Art Monaco** fair, where he unveiled his work **Cryptogram One**.

His large solo exhibition organized in **2016** at the **Galerie Atrium** in Marbella (Spain) was inaugurated by the city mayor, who publicly praised his work in front of international media.

## Public commissions and major achievements

In **2010**, Karl Lagasse was chosen to represent the city of **Deauville** at the world equestrian championship **Horsemania**, held in **Lexington, United States**, where he created a horse sculpture specially for the event.

In **2012**, he gifted Deauville his bronze sculpture **Cryptogram One**, installed at the city entrance as a symbol of peace and love.

Also in **2012**, he collaborated with **Corbis** to create a monumental sculpture for the **Cannes Film Festival**. This work, composed of photographs spanning 1945 to 2011, is signed by several personalities, including **Alexandra Lamy** and **Matthew McConaughey**.

The success of the **One Dollar** series also earned him recognition by Artprice among the ten best sculptors worldwide under thirty.

## Creation of trophies for the Deauville American Film Festival

In **2017**, Karl Lagasse was commissioned to design the trophies for the **43rd edition of the Deauville American Film Festival**.

Inspired by his work **Cryptogram One**, these trophies cast in aluminum with a mirror finish bear inscriptions **“Hope”**, **“7e Art”**, and **“Deauville”** on their four faces.

For the **46th edition of the festival in 2020**, he created a new trophy inspired by the famous barriers that line Deauville’s Planches.

## Monumental installations

In **2016**, France Culture highlighted his monumental installation **A Piece of Heaven on Earth**, presented at the **Art Paris Art Fair 2015** in collaboration with **Maserati**.

This creation features a Maserati draped in a white veil, a statue of Jesus, and several dollar-shaped sculptures to offer a reflection on human debt.

In **2017**, Karl Lagasse also produced the trophies for the Deauville American Film Festival, echoing the aesthetic of **Cryptogram One**, enriched in particular with the inscriptions **“Hope”** and **“7e Art”**.
