Juan Chamizo, born in 1948 in Madrigalejo, Cáceres, Spain, is an artist whose work centers on exploring the human being through iconic portraiture and personal and cultural relationships. After emigrating to Venezuela in 1978, where he resided for 40 years, his work enriched itself with Caribbean and European influences, reflecting his experience as a returning emigrant and the complexity of cultural identity.

His artistic practice is characterized by a particular use of texture and color, approaching figurative expressionism. To achieve his textures, he uses a special spatula he designed himself, inspired by the scarifications of faces and bodies of some African peoples. This technique personalizes and unifies his works, in which he often combines figurative and abstract elements.

In his more recent series, such as the series "Characters" (Personajes), he represents fragmented faces that sometimes merge, inviting reflection on relationships, friendship, the loss of identity due to globalization, and the sense of belonging to a place and its culture. His work has been exhibited in various galleries and museums, both in Venezuela and Spain, and is part of private and public collections in several countries.

Since returning to Spain in 2018, Juan Chamizo has continued to participate in group exhibitions in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, and Melilla, consolidating his career and presence in the contemporary art scene.
