Luigi Improta (1966) - Il patto silenzioso

Oil on canvas by Luigi Improta, a work that fuses Symbolist suggestion and contemporary naturalism. A female figure with long coppery hair emerges from a pond dotted with white water lilies, in a tender gesture of intimacy with a red fox that surfaces from the water beside her — their snouts almost touching, in a suspended moment of trust and communion between human and animal.
The color palette plays on the contrast between the deep green of the aquatic vegetation and the warm tones of the red — hair and fur of the fox reflect and merge in the reflection on the dark water, creating a powerful visual unity between the two subjects.
