Description from the seller

THERE IS ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD - EDITION 1/1

With this vertical-format artwork, Medsan paints a leaping koi carp in the great tradition of sumi-e, Japanese ink painting, and evokes within its body, through a double exposure effect, a spring landscape of blossoming cherry trees.

The treatment blends two techniques: the bold black-and-white wash that captures in a single confident gesture the fish’s movement, its scales and its water turmoil — and the delicate watercolor, all in pinks and soft greens, which forms at the heart of the carp a river winding between sakura and misty mountains. Ink splatters and textured washi paper complete the piece. The red cartouche メドサン signs the work.

The work carries the full symbolism of the koi: courage, perseverance and ascent, the legend of the fish that swims upstream to become a dragon. By lodging the reborn spring in its flank, Medsan makes it a emblem of life and metamorphosis, in a poetry of restrained elegance.

A pure and poetic piece, ideal for adding a zen, refined touch to a contemporary interior of a collector of Japanese art and symbolism.

About the Studio:
Atelier Joconde is a collective of artists united around a living and plural contemporary creation. Set up as a true site of artistic production, the studio operates both in collaborative creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. Alongside him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo engages in a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, naïve art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, created and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
