Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series dedicated to shop window models, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he develops this reflection further by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a disturbing, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, simplified to the essential, captures in a few strong contrasts an instantly recognizable identity. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil-like aesthetic, the works belong to the street art tradition, balancing spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct wall intervention, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons that continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with a built-in rear mounting. Printed on luminous white vinyl, adhered between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, ensuring excellent durability, great longevity, color stability and a modern, contemporary finish.
Career
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual activity, he develops a writer/author and musician career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a comic book, a photography book, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
