Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first came to prominence with a series devoted to window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models gain a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relation to illusion and projection.
New Series – Walls of Legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have shaped history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, pared down to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Created with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works sit within the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and mastery of the gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Manufacturing
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies plus 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with integrated rear mounting. Printed on bright white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with UV- and humidity-resistant soft lamination, ensuring excellent durability, long-term resistance, color stability and a modern, contemporary look.
Career
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual activity, he develops an author’s and musician’s practice including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
