Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Subsequently, intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling presence, almost alive, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into an aesthetics of stencil, the works sit within the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. The deep black and the raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while the imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons that continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist's proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated back-mount. Printing on luminous white vinyl, affixed between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, ensuring excellent durability, great long-term resistance, color stability and a modern and contemporary look.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in roughly twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the designated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops a writer/author and musician body of work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. As a singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
