Description from the seller
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary imagery
A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence, and the perception of images in urban spaces. He first became known for a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and overlays. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later fascinated by the distinctive aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light, and composition, these inanimate subjects acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of Legends
This series pays tribute to iconic figures who have made their mark on history, music, cinema, and popular culture. Each portrait, pared down to essentials, captures in a few striking contrasts an identity instantly recognizable. Created with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetics, the works are rooted in the street art tradition, between spontaneity and controlled execution. The deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct wall intervention, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons that continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated rear hanger. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, ensuring excellent durability, long-term resistance, color stability and a modern, contemporary look.
Career
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops work as an author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he is currently performing with the band FRENZY.
