Description from the seller
David Law
Photographic Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of imagery in urban space. He first made a name for himself with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Later, drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them on the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a haunting, almost living presence, questioning our relation to illusion and projection.
New Series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have marked history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few strong contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Realized with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into a stencil aesthetic, the works sit in the tradition of street art, between spontaneity and control of the gesture. Deep black and rough surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Printmaking
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by an authenticity certificate. The prints are produced on aluminum with a rear mounting integrated. Printed on luminous white vinyl, laminated between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and moisture-resistant coating, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary look.
Career
Since 2014, David Law takes part in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the appointed photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops an author’s and musician’s project including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he is currently performing with the band FRENZY.
