Description from the seller
At first glance, Ralf Altrieth's painting seems to invite us into a world that belongs only to him. Then the gaze lingers—and gradually discovers a more complex universe, populated by singular characters, of unexpected encounters and details that seem to invent their own story. Nothing is fully revealed. The work evolves ceaselessly depending on the distance, the light, and the time spent in front of it.
In this universe, the boundary between dream and reality remains deliberately unstable. Possible narratives surface, presences appear, without ever imposing themselves. The gaze is invited, set in motion. Seeing becomes an active experience, where everyone is free to invent their own interpretations.
But beyond their immediate suggestive power, Altrieth's works settle permanently into space. They command attention by their singularity. By their presence. And by that rare capacity to transform the atmosphere of the place where they take place.
