Description from the seller
On a pebbly beach, a young woman in a red one-piece swimsuit lies stretched against a green and cream striped parasol, one hand lifting her hair, her gaze turned to the horizon. In front of her, the blue-green water of a calm bay sparkles with glints of light; a sailboat with white sails glides off in the distance, its mast reflecting in a long golden trail. In the background, a wooded hill and a white house close the horizon. Semantically, everything conveys quiet and contemplation: the resting bather, the passing sailboat, the rhyme of the swimsuit’s red with the scene’s overall softness. The painting’s facture, resolutely impressionist, renders the water, the pebbles, and the foliage in vibrant, divided strokes, in the great tradition of coastal landscape painting; the red of the swimsuit concentrates the painting’s chromatic energy.
