Rare and interesting collection of Catholic and mystical prophecies relating to the “present times,” published a few months after the fall of the Second Empire and the Paris Commune. The work, edited by Adrien Péladan (father of the more famous Joséphin), gathers and comments on a wide corpus of prophetic texts—many of which are rare or then unpublished—drawn from Nostradamus, Merlin, St. Malachy, the Ecstatic of Niederbronn, Notre-Dame de La Salette, Holzhauser, David Pareus, St. Cataldo, Marie Lataste, Anna-Maria Taigi, and many other seers and monks. Ample space is devoted to the theme of the “Grand Monarque,” to the restoration of the legitimate monarchy in France, to the fate of Rome and the Church, to prophecies about Napoleon III and the end of times.

The Avignon edition of 1871 constitutes the first and most complete systematic collection of these prophecies published in France in the midst of the post-Napoleonic crisis; it is therefore a document of great interest both for the history of 19th-century Catholic eschatology and for studies on occultism and the monarchist-legitimist revival.

Original binding in cardboard, loose and heavily worn, with a partially detached spine and rubbed corners; interior generally good, with the usual browning of time.
