Angelo Scardino - Marea interiore

A female figure curls around her knees, while a fluid surface of blues, whites and earthy tones runs across the body like a current, transforming it into an inner landscape.

The posture is closed and protective: the arms form a threshold around the torso, the folded legs concentrate volume toward the center and the face, resting on the hand, remains partially withdrawn from view. It is not possible to determine whether the figure is experiencing melancholy, rest, or concentration. This very ambiguity makes the image open and contemporary: the work does not illustrate a precise emotion, but gives shape to a moment of suspension.

To the compactness of the pose contrasts the movement of the surface. The blue and azure areas thicken in the lower part and rise along the legs and torso; white, gray and brown traverse the shoulders, face and hair. Veins, drips, small chromatic inclusions and density variations alter the anatomical continuity. The body thus appears simultaneously present and in transformation, as if skin, water, rock and memory belonged to the same organism.

Even the gaps between torso, arms and legs participate in the composition. They are not simply consequences of the pose, but dark openings that interrupt the mass, make depth legible and introduce a tension between protection and vulnerability.

The work dialogues with Angelo Scardino's research on the relationship between body, void, perception, fragility and transformation. The human figure retains recognizability, but becomes the support of a visual process that alters its identity and stability.

The work comes directly from Angelo Scardino's studio and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, including identifying data and a photograph of the work. The sculpture bears the author's signature. It is a unique piece, not part of an edition and not numbered as a multiple.
The finish was carried out individually by the artist; the variations and stratifications of the surface are part of the manual process.
Packaging will be carried out directly by the studio with shaped protections, shock-absorbing materials and an internal structure that prevents movement during transport. The sculpture will be placed in a double rigid container, with particular attention to the head, arms, hands and feet. The shipment will be tracked and insured.

Biografia dell’artista

Angelo Scardino is an Italian contemporary sculptor, born in 1986 and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Lecce, where he completed his studies in Sculpture with top marks and praise. His research addresses the relationship between body, void, memory and transformation, extending to the fragility of form, technology and perceptual processes. The human body is often treated as a traversable structure: surface, envelope, psychological architecture or place of sedimentation. In 2025 one of his works was selected among the finalists for the Arte Prize; in the same period he participated in Paratissima XXI. The official minutes of the Michelangelo Buonarroti Prize also document a Special Critique Award given to Scardino for the work Metropolis. Alongside his artistic practice he teaches Plastic and Sculptural Disciplines.
