Description from the seller
Art Deco Solid Brass Door Knob with Matching Rosette – Paris, 1920s
In Excellent Condition – No Reserve
A beautifully restored and high-end quality solid brass door knob from Paris, dating to the 1920s Art Deco period. This refined piece features deeply cast floral and geometric patterns, characteristic of the early Parisian Art Deco transition from organic Art Nouveau curves to the bold architectural style of the interwar years.
The knob has been fully restored, cleaned, and fitted with a new threaded rod. The screw thread accepts a standard bolt, making installation straightforward and secure. With its warm golden tone and strong sculptural relief, it is ideal both as a functional door knob and as a decorative statement handle often used in interior styling projects.
Historical Context
In the 1920s, French hardware designers embraced heavy brass castings with rich ornamental surfaces. These knobs were typically produced for Haussmann-era apartments and hôtels particuliers where decorative metalwork played a central role in interior expression. The fluted and petal-like motifs seen here reflect Paris’ early Art Deco vocabulary: symmetrical, elegant, and luxurious.
