Autumn Picnic: A Tribute to Botero by A. De Luca depicts a couple enjoying an outdoor picnic, masterfully reinterpreting Fernando Botero's unmistakable monumental and inflated style.
In the center of the scene, on a pink blanket laid on the green grass, sits a plump and imposing woman. She wears a vibrant red dress decorated with white lace at the neckline and hem, paired with a large yellow straw hat. With a proud gaze directed at the viewer, she holds a carrot in her hand. Beside her, seated on a tree trunk, a sturdy man in a dark suit, white shirt, red tie, and a dark bowler hat plays a stringed instrument, perhaps a lute or a guitar. His facial features, characterized by thin mustaches, echo the typical Botero-esque visages.
In the foreground lies a rich still life: a wicker basket overflowing with fruit, including bananas, a slice of watermelon, apples, pears, and cherries scattered here and there on the blanket and the grass. In the background dominates a large lush tree from whose branches small red fruits fall or hang, while other trees, a stream, and a hill or volcano smoking under a clear blue sky can be glimpsed. The work is distinguished by full volumes, the use of vivid and saturated colors, and a suspended, dreamlike atmosphere, faithful to the spirit of the Colombian master.
