This authentic single-sheave ship block is made from heavy hardwood and structurally reinforced with a thick hand-forged iron band hardware, featuring the classic diamond-shaped securing around the central axle. On the underside there is a solid forged iron mounting hook. This type of artisanal nautical hardware was used on sailing and cargo ships for hoisting heavy loads and tensioning the rigging. The pulley presumably had a new piece of wood fitted in the past and is supplied with the depicted piece of authentically braided ship rope, which enhances its historical appearance.
