Description from the seller
Beautiful bas-relief decorative plaque depicting a scene inspired by myth and bacchanal: the passionate embrace of a Satyr (Pan) and a Nymph.
A work of great finesse of execution, characterized by detailed anatomy, the rendering of movement, and the grace of the draped figures, in the spirit of Art Nouveau / Neo-Classical creations of the 20th century.
Object features:
Theme: Mythological / Classical Erotic scene (Satyr, Nymph and bacchic figures).
Material: Bronze / Brass stamped repoussé (non-magnetic metal).
Diameter: 26 cm
Weight: 1 kg
Mounting: Original riveted hanging ring on the back.
Condition and Restoration:
The plaque has been recently cleaned with care to bring out the sculpted details and the metal’s shine. It features a superb gilded and nuanced patina.
Note to collectors: The gallery’s last photo shows the plaque in its original (found) state before cleaning. It then bore a magnificent natural verdigris (green patina), undeniable proof of its authenticity, the quality of its copper alloy, and its natural oxidation over several decades.
A very beautiful piece for a cabinet of curiosities or a collection, ready to be hung.
