Sarreguemines Faience Works
Covered tobacco pot in fine earthenware with a relief decoration
Late 19th century

Cylindrical tobacco pot in fine cream and brown earthenware, with a rich molded high-relief decoration depicting a genre scene inspired by the compositions of Louis-Léopold Boilly, featuring several figures in a lively everyday scene. The domed lid is adorned with a vegetal frieze embellished with relief symbols and surmounted by a sculpted handle in the form of a grotesque head or mascaron.
Some chips are to be found on the lid (refer to the attached photos)

The base bears the recessed mark “SARREGUEMINES”, the model number “284” and a circular hallmark with an “S” surmounted by an eagle.

Beautiful specimen of this decorative production from Sarreguemines, combining quality of molding with iconographic interest.
