Bronze sculpture Paard by Map Musch (1914–2000), created in 1974, in unica edition, 70 cm wide, 50 cm high and 25 cm deep, signed and in excellent condition.

Map Grothausen-Musch, sculptor Born in Amsterdam 1914-2000
Map Musch received her training in Epsom, England at the School of Art and with sculptor Johan Limpers.
She exhibited, among others, in Amsterdam at Ina Broers and at Sphinx and for the chapel of the St. Lucas Hospital she made a tabernacle.
In the Municipality of Duiven there is a 3-part outdoor sculpture with a horse-dog-child figure by her.
Her work, consisting of child figures, horses, golfers and dancers, is naturalistic and shows a very sensitive expressiveness of controlled mobility.
In sculpture material, bronze, the figures gain extra relief.
BRONZE;
An alloy of copper with other metals (mainly tin) that has been used since ancient times.
When casting bronze the artist usually applies the lost-wax technique, which is more than 5000 years old. It is the best, but also the most complex method to produce sculptures.
First the artist forms a model of his sculpture.
It is embedded in a liquid silicone rubber mixture.
Once the material has set, the model is cut out.
The liquid wax is poured into the negative mold.
After cooling, the wax cast is removed from the mold, provided with runners and dipped in ceramic mass.
The ceramic mass is hardened in an oven, and the wax flows out (lost-wax mold).
Now we finally have the negative mold, into which the 1400 degrees Celsius hot molten bronze is poured.
After the bronze has cooled, the ceramic shell is broken away and the sculpture is revealed.
Now the cores are removed, the surfaces polished, patinated and numbered by the artist himself or, according to his specifications, by a specialist.
Thus each casting becomes an original work.
For bronze casting of lower quality, the sand-casting method is often used, which however in terms of surface properties and quality does not achieve the results of the more complex lost-wax technique.
