This magnificent pair of octagonal, cut-corner fine earthenware vases from the famous Belgian manufacture Boch Frères Keramis (BFK) stands as a beautiful decorative collection piece, crafted in the late 19th century or the very early 20th century. Each piece features a rich hand-painted monochrome blue design under a glossy glaze, brilliantly reinterpreting the traditional Delft Blue charm through Far Eastern chinoiserie scenes and gardens of the Far East. The vertical panels alternate between large luminous panels depicting a songbird or a bird of paradise perched on a flowering hedge, and side sections decorated with dense vegetal scrolls, tendrils, and intricate geometric lattices. The base and the short neck are accentuated by refined borders of stylized lambrequins that elegantly emphasize the eight-sided geometry of the silhouette. Turning the pieces over provides a perfect guarantee of authenticity for experts, as the bases reveal the genuine period mark painted in blue underglaze in the form of the intertwined BFK monogram, flanked by the number 16 applied by the painter.
