Description from the seller
Italsilver – Decorative sculpture depicting a bird in 800/1000 silver – Stamped – Italy – circa 1975–1985
Description
Elegant and refined decorative sculpture depicting a stylized bird, made by the Italian manufacturer Italsilver – Creazioni Artistiche – Italy, dateable to the second half of the 20th century, circa 1975–1985.
The sculpture is externally made in silver grade 800/1000, as documented by the presence of the “800” stamp impressed directly on the piece in several places.
The object features a refined modern design, characterized by soft and harmonious lines, a gracefully shaped body, an elongated tail, and perfectly balanced proportions.
Particularly notable is the surface work, which alternates wide smooth areas polished to a brilliant finish with parts finely decorated by engravings, micro-stamping, and relief work, used to reproduce the bird’s plumage with great detail.
The different silver finishes create depth and movement and produce evocative plays of light, highlighting the sculpture’s three-dimensionality.
Stamps and marks
One especially interesting element is the presence of three distinct stamps located in different points of the sculpture.
On the neck there is clearly the “800” stamp, indicative of the silver’s fineness.
A second stamp again bears “800,” accompanied by additional letters, symbols, and numbers, presumably relating to the manufacturer marks and/or production references.
A third stamp, located near the tail, presents two letters or characters enclosed within a border/cartouche. The mark is intentionally left without a definitive attribution and will be clearly documented in the photographs of the listing.
All three stamps will be documented with close-up photographs, which are an integral part of the object’s description.
The base also preserves the valuable original label “Italsilver – Creazioni Artistiche – Italy,” together with its original burgundy velvet lining.
The joint presence of the original label, the different marks, and the stamps constitutes an important documentary element for the identification and Italian provenance of the work.
Material and construction
The presence of the 800 stamp identifies the stamped parts as silver with nominal fineness 800/1000.
Considering the construction type and the sculpture’s substantial weight, it is possible that the piece internally contains a core, support, or different filling material. Since it has not been disassembled or subjected to invasive analysis, the nature of any internal material cannot be determined.
Consequently, the object’s total weight should not be interpreted as the net weight of the silver.
For the quality of modeling, richness of decoration, and accuracy of finishes, this sculpture represents an interesting example of Italian decorative silverware from the second half of the twentieth century.
A refined collectible, particularly suitable for collectors of vintage Italian silverware, decorative arts, and Italian design of the 20th century, as well as a striking decorative element for Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, Modernist, or contemporary interiors.
