Description
Poster for the Western Railway Company for destinations Normandy, Brittany, Jersey and Mont-Saint-Michel. The poster features a Norman woman and a Breton woman, each in a landscape typical of her region. The two are separated by a trumeau whose upper part is sculpted as Archangel Saint Michael slaying the dragon. The Norman woman holds a basket of apples; she is in a coastal meadow, with daisies and other flowers scattered on the ground; in the background, an apple branch partly hides the beach; in the foreground, to the left, several apples lie on the ground. The Breton woman is also in a coastal landscape but rockier, with cliffs. Some gorse grows on the grass, a cow (black-and-white Breton) stands behind her, in the background a monumental cross (calvary) rises.
