AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful work on paper, paper size 30 x 39 cm.

Gabriel De Pauw was a Belgian artist who was born in Temse in 1924 and who died there in 2000. He was a painter and draftsman. Son of Jef De Pauw. Private lessons under Dis Van Raemdonck, further studies at the Higher Institute in Antwerp under Is. Opsomer. He mainly painted landscapes and farmyard scenes, sporadic figures, nudes, portraits, interiors, still lifes, flowers. From the press: 'G.D.P. admires painters such as Modigliani, Rouault, Servaes, Permeke and Godderis; he is a late figure of Flemish Expressionism, a pictorial instinct and a late figure of Flemish Expressionism, a pictorial instinct and has a physical need to express himself in colors; the most astonishing thing, then, is his color palette. He frees himself in his work from an intense love for all that lives and breathes. Thus, as it were, he creates a new reality. The fertile earth, the fields, the farm buildings, the dilapidated houses, the power of the clouds: as a landscape painter he is in the front row.’ Mentioned in BAS I and Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists.
