The Dutch visual artist Petrus Johannes 'Pieter' Defesche (1921-1998) gained recognition for his paintings, gouaches, and graphics. In an expressionist, almost abstract style, he devoted himself mainly to landscapes, still lifes, and Biblical depictions.

Together with Ger Lataster, Jef Diederen, Lei Molin, Pierre van Soest, Frans Nols, and Harry op de Laak, he was regarded as one of the 'Amsterdam Limburgers'.

This circle was educated at the Middelbare Kunstnijverheidsschool in Maastricht and, during the war years, studied further together at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, where Heinrich Campendonk was his teacher.
