Limited Edition Franklin Mint Gunner's Level on a wooden pedestal base, dating from 1987 and crafted in lacquered brass with a brass body and wooden base as part of The Great Instruments of Discovery collection, in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear.

For sale is a Limited Edition collectable Franklin Mint Gunner's Level on a wooden pedestal base.
It was made as a Limited Edition in 1987 as part of the Franklin Mint collections official issue of the 'The Great Instruments of Discovery'. It was made for the 'National Maritime Historical Society', along with other maritime instruments as part of a limited edition collection. The 'National Maritime Historical Society' was founded in the USA in 1963.
It is precision crafted from solid brass to a historically accurate design and was inspired by maritime /scientific instruments of the 16th Century. The Gunner's Level is also known/ called a gunner's quadrant or clinometer and is a specific type of inclinometer designed with a curved base to fit on top of a cannon or mortar barrel to determine or set its vertical elevation.
It is in Excellent condition, showing only minor signs of age /use /faint scratches, the only noticeable marks are: a light scratch to the back where the moving parts have made a faint surface scratch and a couple of tiny marks to the very top. Please see photos for these condition details.
It is a working fully functioning 'scientific' instrument/ ornament but is primarily for display/ a collectors piece.
The height (when the instrument is on its wooden base) is: 12.8cm ( 5 inches approx.) & the width is: 13cm ( 5 inches approx.). The wooden Base dimensions are: 44.5 X 79.5 cm ( 1.75 x 3.12 inches).
Total Item weight: 200g.
