This vibrant oil painting captures a dramatic scene of a maritime regatta at sunset, executed with thick, textured brushstrokes and a spatula suggesting strong movement of the sea and wind. The composition is dominated by several large schooners, possibly of the J-class, which tilt markedly as they sail against a cliff-lined coast visible to the left. The sky is a fiery swirl of oranges, yellows, and touches of cyan blue on the horizon, casting a spectacular glow over the ocean. The sea, rendered in deep shades of blue, turquoise and bright yellow highlights, is full of churning waves and splashes of foam.
