Description from the seller

Antique Brooks B66S genuine leather bicycle saddle, England, dating approximately from the 1930s–1940s.

A beautiful and highly authentic example of the classic Brooks B66S, a traditional sprung leather bicycle saddle made by the renowned English manufacturer Brooks.

The saddle retains its original genuine leather top, metal frame, double rear coil springs, rivets, rails and tensioning mechanism. The underside of the leather is clearly impressed with the BROOKS B66S model designation and GENUINE LEATHER marking.

This example has been carefully cleaned by hand while preserving its original character and patina. The leather has subsequently been carefully conditioned and is supple and firm rather than dry or hard.

Importantly, the saddle has not been restored, repainted or artificially refinished. Its natural signs of age and use have deliberately been preserved. The leather is in good original condition for its age, with normal surface wear and age-related traces consistent with decades of use. Some close-up photographs and lighting may accentuate the natural texture of the leather more strongly than it appears in normal viewing.

The original metal construction is also well preserved, showing attractive age-related patina, surface oxidation and wear. These traces have not been removed aggressively, allowing the saddle to retain the authentic appearance expected of an antique bicycle component.

The twin rear springs give the B66S its characteristic appearance and were designed to provide additional comfort on traditional road and city bicycles with an upright riding position.

Because of its compact proportions, classic form and beautiful aged materials, this saddle is attractive not only as an authentic component for a vintage or period bicycle, but also as a collectible Brooks item or decorative industrial object.

It would display beautifully in a cycling collection, vintage interior, workshop, café, bicycle shop or industrial-style setting.
