This kettle is a traditional Japanese cast-iron kettle (tetsubin) featuring the classic motif of the "Three Friends of Winter" (bamboo, pine, and plum). Specifically, this type of cast-iron craftsmanship traditionally comes from the Tohoku region (cities such as Morioka and Oshu in Iwate Prefecture), world-renowned for its production of Nambu Tekki-Japan. Mid to late 20th century (Vintage Era - approx. 1960 to 1980). The casting design, the rough texture on the bottom, and the shape of the lid knob are characteristic of export and domestic-use pieces from the second half of the last century. This piece is not an Edo or Meiji period antique, but a vintage piece in very good condition; it measures approximately 23x20 cm and weighs 2361 grams.
