For sale is an original Japanese Kozuka with a Kogatana blade, a traditional small knife carried in the scabbard of a katana or wakizashi. Such companion blades were both practical tools and artfully crafted components of the Japanese sword mounting (Koshirae).

The Kozuka grip consists of dark metal and is adorned with silver inlays, which presumably depict floral motifs. The fine craftsmanship and decorative details emphasize the high craftsmanship of the Edo period and give the piece a special aesthetic appeal. The Kozuka has a silver floral ornament and two broad gold-colored ornaments.

The Kogatana blade is single-edged and bears a mei (signature), indicating the smith or workshop. Signed blades are an important quality feature of traditional Japanese blades.

Due to the design, materials and typical features, the piece can probably be attributed to the Edo period (1603–1868). The blade shows natural patina as well as age- and use-related traces that authentically underscore the historic character.
