For sale is an original Japanese Kozuka, the traditional grip of a Kogatana, as it was used as part of the sword mounting (Koshirae) of a Katana or Wakizashi. The piece stylistically dates from the Edo period and shows an elegant, finely crafted surface.
The front side consists of dark metal or patinated material. One can clearly discern small buildings, trees, bushes (landscape) as well as human figures. The golden speckles are part of the finely textured landscape. This technique is typical for high-quality Kozuka and gives the grip a subtle, yet noble radiance.
On the back is clearly visible a Mei (signature) on the Nakago (tang).
