Description from the seller
Quadro “KUT – Kitchen Suffering”
I present this authorial piece, a work that explores the duality between the seductive aesthetics of the domestic imagination of the 1950s and the reality often silenced lived by many women in that period.
At first glance, the composition evokes the luxury and abundance of bourgeois kitchens of the 1950s. The vibrant colors, the bowl full of fruit, the decorative patterns and the carefully constructed atmosphere evoke the ideal of prosperity, comfort and perfection promoted by advertising and the culture of the time.
However, the true meaning of the work reveals itself in the contrast with the inscription “Kitchen Suffering.” This expression breaks with the apparent harmony of the image and denounces the reality hidden behind the domestic ideal: pain, oppression and social pressure imposed on women, often reduced to the role of housewives, forced to maintain an image of happiness while sacrificing their freedom, identity and ambitions.
The piece questions the romanticization of domestic life and invites the observer to reflect on the distance between appearance and reality. The colorful and welcoming environment thus transforms into a subtle critique of societal expectations and the false ideal of perfect happiness sold by retro aesthetics.
