This black and white photograph was created in spring 2026, in the heart of the French Pyrenees, around Lake Payolle. It belongs to the series The Forest, a photographic exploration where landscape becomes a mental space, between presence, memory and disappearance.

Photograph taken with analog film using a Leica Leicaflex.

The image processing, deliberately high-contrast and grainy, is inspired by the aesthetics of the renowned Japanese photographer Daidō Moriyama. This approach gives the work a raw, organic intensity, where the photographic material is as important as the subject itself.

Agathe Toman is a French artist born in 1989. A multidisciplinary artist, she develops a practice that blends drawing, painting, photography, poetry, and sculpture around the links between landscape, psyche, and memory.
After studies at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and several years as a stylist within Parisian haute couture houses, she chose to devote herself entirely to her artistic practice.

Her works are present in numerous private collections in Europe, the United States, and Asia. She has been listed on Sotheby’s since 2021, where several of her works have been auctioned. Her work has notably been presented at Art Paris and published in media such as Forbes, L’Œil and ELLE.

Through her photographs, Agathe Toman seeks less to document reality than to reveal what eludes it. Her images question our relationship to memory, to the living world, and to inner landscapes. Between abstraction and figuration, they invite the viewer to a contemplative experience where each person can project their own story.
