Maurizio Galimberti (Como, 1956) is an Italian photographer of international fame. A passion for photography since he was a boy, Galimberti began working with classic analog black-and-white film, replaced in 1983 by the more performing instant camera that would become his stylistic signature.
Galimberti develops a personal technique based on juxtaposing multiple instant photos, giving rise to true photographic mosaics in which the influence of great masters such as Umberto Boccioni and Marcel Duchamp is easy to recognize. In his compositions the subject is deconstructed and reassembled in a three-dimensional key, following a mathematical and rigorous procedure that recalls the harmony of a musical composition.
At the center of his mosaics appear both famous works of art, such as the Victory of Brescia, Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper and the Chapel of San Nicola in Tolentino (Macerata), as well as figures from the world of show business, including Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, George Clooney, Monica Bellucci and Robert De Niro.
Galimberti has collaborated with leading companies in various sectors, including Milan Football Club, Fiat Auto, Kerakoll, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Illy coffee, Nokia, Lancia Auto and Acqua di Parma.
His works have been the subject of numerous publications, as well as exhibited within important Italian cultural institutions, including the 57th Venice Biennale of Art, M9 Museo del Novecento in Mestre, Gallerie d’Italia in Milan, Museo Muse in Trento, Mole Antonelliana in Turin, and Palazzo Reale in Milan.
