Description from the seller
THE OPEN WINDOW
95 × 70 cm
Acrylic on canvas · 2026
The Open Window represents the encounter between an interior space and a coastal landscape through open doors that frame the horizon. The composition uses architecture as a device to direct the gaze outward, where the sea, the mountains, and a sky of warm orange tones build a scene of great serenity. The pots placed on the terrace establish a natural transition between the two spaces, reinforcing the continuity between the dwelling and the landscape.
The work relies on an intense chromatic contrast between the greens of the carpentry, the purples of the interior, the blues of the water, and the warmth of the sky. Light passes through the room and projects shadows that add depth and rhythm to the composition. Rather than depicting a specific place, the painting proposes an experience of openness and contemplation, where architecture functions as a frame inviting the viewer to project themselves toward an imagined landscape.
PROJECTION AND VALUE OF THE WORK
The Open Window is part of Mar Legón’s pictorial research on the relationship between architecture, landscape, and perception. In this series, doors, windows, and terraces cease to be merely structural elements to become visual devices that connect intimate space with the exterior world.
Completed entirely by hand in 2026, this unique piece gathers some of the artist’s most representative features: structured compositions, a vibrant color palette, and a reinterpretation of the Mediterranean landscape far from naturalism. The work synthesizes a contemporary view of the landscape, where color and light build a reality with a strong visual identity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mar Legón develops a painting practice focused on reinterpreting landscapes, interiors, still lifes, and figurative scenes through a visual language based on color, formal synthesis, and the creation of atmosphere.
Her work transforms spaces and recognizable motifs into images of strong visual intensity, where reality is simplified and reorganized to give rise to scenes that oscillate between memory, imagination, and contemplation.
