Description from the seller
Bold frontal low-angle: lying on a white and blue towel, a naked woman with scarlet lips holds a beach novel aloft, its cover covering her eyes completely. Behind her, the yellow band of sand, the foam edge, the deep blue sea, the pale sky. Semiotically, the painting is a machine of irony: the body offered to the sun is exposed defenselessly, while the only “gaze” in the painting is the devouring one printed on the paper. The cover acts as a mask, a shield, and a threat at once — the danger is no longer in the water, it is in the hands of the bather. A straightforward solar palette, bodies modeled in thick brushstrokes, lip red as the sole skin accent.
