Description from the seller
Yoshitomo Nara - Thinking My Home
Official poster
High-quality offset print
Poster size: 36.4 cm x 51.5 cm
In Thinking My Home, Nara deploys a recurring motif, that of the house or home, to explore themes of identity, belonging, and memory. The work translates what the artist himself calls “the home” not only as a physical place but as a mental, emotional, and mnemonic space.
The central figure, often childlike, looks at or contemplates a minimalist background, which creates a void around it: this void heightens loneliness, nostalgia, or even existential questioning. The title suggests a thought directed toward the home (“My Home”): this evokes reflection on one’s past, on one’s roots, on the relationship to “home” that changes, that is lost or transformed.
Will be carefully packaged for shipping.
Yoshitomo Nara is a major figure in contemporary Japanese art, known for his childlike characters with ambivalent expressions, blending innocence and rebellion. His visual universe, influenced by pop culture and punk, dialogues with that of artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami or Takeru Amano. On the international stage, his work resonates with Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst or KAWS. He also shares affinities with Banksy, Invader or D*Face, while influencing the culture of objects like Bearbrick and Richard Orlinski.
