Artistic description:
Magnificent original work by the renowned American painter Gino Hollander (1924–2015), one of the figures linked to the Abstract Expressionism movement that emerged in New York during the second half of the 20th century.
The composition presents a female face barely suggested, built through broad glazings, drips, spontaneous brushstrokes, and a restrained palette of whites, blacks, ochres, and yellows. The figure’s identity remains deliberately ambiguous, generating an intense emotional charge and a strong introspective component, a hallmark of Hollander’s production.
The execution combines fluid stains, transparencies, and swift gestures with areas of great chromatic subtlety, creating a quiet, melancholic atmosphere. The balance between abstraction and figuration makes the work an excellent example of the artist’s mature style.
This is a large-format piece, signed, created on canvas mounted on a wood original edge, preserving the expressive force and spontaneity characteristic of gestural painting of the New York School. For its plastic quality, presence, and authorship, it is an especially attractive work for both contemporary art collectors and lovers of Abstract Expressionism.
