Full contemporary calf binding, spine with raised bands ornamented.

Important treatise on surgery by Pierre Dionis, whose original edition dates to 1707 and has been reissued many times.
It includes the famous plate of the “poor Malabou” afflicted with sarcocele.

The book also features a rich in-text wood-engraved illustration as well as copper-engraved plates out of text, all depicting surgical instruments, along with a portrait of the author, a view of the royal garden, and a scene of public dissection in the frontispiece.

The overall condition is fair; the period binding is in good condition with signs of use, a loss at the upper cap, worn corners, rubbing and epidermures.
The interior is somewhat soiled, the paper sometimes fragile, especially at the beginning of the work, the engraving of the royal garden shows creases, a hole and a small tear (photos).
Practically at the center of the work, discreet misalignment of the binding (photo) which remains well solid.

The book is well complete including all its illustrations which are numerous.

Indispensable for a collection on the history of medicine and surgery.
