Chris Chelios is a former American ice hockey player and is considered one of the best defensemen in NHL history. He was known for his tremendous toughness, leadership, defensive strength, and his exceptionally long career at the highest level. Chelios played over 25 years in the NHL and even in his advanced age remained an important contributor.
During his career he played for the Montreal Canadiens, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings, and briefly for the Atlanta Thrashers. His greatest successes came with the Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Red Wings, with whom he won a total of three Stanley Cups (1986, 2002 and 2008).
Chris Chelios was awarded the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman three times and was an NHL All-Star a total of eleven times. In addition, he was repeatedly selected to the NHL First and Second All-Star Teams. With the U.S. national team he participated in numerous international tournaments as well as several Olympic Games and won the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. In 2013 Chelios was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and remains to this day one of the greatest American ice hockey players of all time.
