Massimiliano Mandas presents SENZA TITOLO (2025), an acrylic painting on canvas in orange tones, 30 cm high by 40 cm wide, signed by hand with the back left signature, depicting a grasshopper and from the project L’Eredità del Minimo, sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
MASSIMILIANO MANDAS.
UNTITLED 2025.
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS.
Signature on the back on the left.
The work depicts a grasshopper, represented through a meticulous mesh of dots, lines and chromatic variations that define the body, legs and large wings of the insect.
The figure occupies much of the surface and is built with an almost obsessive process, in which anatomical detail coexists with a more abstract and symbolic dimension. In the background appear signs, numbers and geometric shapes, organized as a visual language made of codes and traces.
The grasshopper falls within the research of “L’Eredità del Minimo”, a project in which Massimiliano Mandas focuses his attention on small and seemingly marginal life forms. Insects are not treated as simple natural subjects, but become presences through which to observe the persistence of life, daily life and what continues to exist even outside human gaze.
The choice to dedicate such a large surface and such a detailed elaboration to an insect normally perceived as secondary overturns the hierarchy of looking: what is small becomes monumental. The precision of the grasshopper contrasts with the layered background, creating a dialogue between nature and sign, order and chaos, reality and representation.
The work was picked up from Cannes, where it was presented in the artist’s exhibition path, and is today offered on Catawiki. Its previous exhibition history adds an extra element of interest within the artist’s research.
“L’Eredità del Minimo” indeed stems from the idea of directing attention toward what is not normally celebrated: insects, reptiles and small animals become witnesses of a reality that proceeds independently of our attention.
