Teapot - Pottery - Shou - long live

A Chinese clay (Yixing Zisha) teapot with a tree trunk and bamboo stalks, with a lid, featuring a monkey holding a coconut in its hands. Very nicely decorated. In very fine condition, (small damage inside the lid).
The character on the bottom: The seal in the center shows the stylized Chinese character 寿 (Shou), written in the traditional seal script (Zhuanshu). Shou means "Long Life" or "Longevity". This is one of the most respected and widely used symbols of good fortune in Chinese culture.
The characters under the lid: Two oval maker’s marks (often with the name of the specific pottery studio or craft workshop). In Chinese teapot tradition it is very common to place the larger family stamp on the bottom of the teapot and to press the smaller, personal marks of the maker under the lid.
This teapot combines the symbolism of flexibility and longevity (bamboo) with that of cleverness and success (the monkey).
