Description from the seller
The Raft of Capitalism - "Gold Rush, Shipwreck of the Souls."
Digital collage: https://www.teejo.fr/pages/l-atelier-digital
In this contemporary rereading of Géricault's masterpiece, I wanted to replace romantic despair with a sharp critique of the modern world: that of triumphant and toxic capitalism. The raft, gnawed by the waves, no longer carries survivors in search of salvation, but a failed humanity, hypnotized by the symbols of wealth—ingots, vault, luxury luggage, stock market screens. On the right, a banner reading "Wall Street" sets the scene: the financial el dorado as a point of no return.
The gazes are empty, the sail bears the logos of the new idols: cryptocurrencies and luxury brands. A man, tattooed with a bull—a brutal symbol of the Stock Exchange—turns his back to the horizon. Time, represented by a clock adrift, and on the left character’s watch, keeps slipping... but no one looks at it; everyone stares at the yacht in the distance crossing the horizon in the hope of being saved.
This work stages collective blindness, the forgetting of the essential, and a society fighting to stay afloat... while refusing to let go of the superfluous
